Always There
My mother passed away in 2002 from breast cancer (which she battled for many years). Her cancer had metastasized to her bones, then eventually to her brain.
A couple of years ago, my dad was diagnosed with prostate cancer, which normally is quite containable. However, because he waited so long to go to the doctor, it had already metastasized to his bones.
I am a realist.
I went to work and was talking to a co-worker about my dad and said, “how do I pray about this because I know where this leads…Cancer gets in your bones, you’re done.”
She said, “you can’t think like that. You still need to pray for healing, peace, comfort, whatever.” I also had a friend suggest praying for other things that might need to be worked out before he passed, like relationships to be mended, financial issues, or logistical issues, anything. That was very good advice that I now pass on to others.
As a realist, I just never even allowed myself to believe my dad would be healed to stay here with us. I knew that he was a Christ believer and I had the hope of his ultimate healing of moving on from this earth to being with Jesus in glory.
I also know that God can do anything if it’s His will…
Well, he passed away and not long afterward, my sister asked me, “if we are God’s chosen people, who have faith that God can do anything, and believe that if we ask in His name that He will do it…why then, would He not heal our dad (and our mom for that matter)?”
Y’all, we live in a fallen world where bad things happen.
Matthew 5:45 says, “…For he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.”
We as believers must to get to the point where no matter what happens, we do our best to rely on God to get us through. Is that always easy, of course not, but I’d sure rather have Him right beside me, walking with me through all the things.
I have relied on so many scripture passages of God’s comfort and promise and songs that convey messages of hope and healing.
We have a good, good Father, that loves us and wants to help us. Looking back over those tough times in my life, I can always see where He was right there with me.
