Connect
The end of a year is a time to reflect on the past year that has gone by. Many years ago, I heard about choosing ONE WORD to focus on for the year instead of making “New Years Resolutions”, because frankly, how long do all of those really last? Well, for me anyway…
By choosing ONE WORD to focus on instead of several different goals, makes it easy to remember, also. One word can be overarching and cover many areas of your life and can still impact your life drastically. My husband and I started doing this a couple of years ago and it helps us to stay focused on what we want to achieve over the next year.
Our word for this past year was REJOICE. Boy, we all needed that one this past year, didn’t we?
We have tried to come up with our ONE WORD on New Year’s Eve or so and it’s amazing how we can agree on what that word will be! For instance, this year, he was throwing out some words for possibilities and not any of them seemed right. I told him that I kept hearing the phrase “I see you” and wondered how we could make that into one word. He immediately said, “CONNECT”!
The word, CONNECT, will not only help us to focus on our relationship (connecting) with God better, but also with our people: our children & grandchildren, friends, family, church family, neighbors, etc. It will also help us to remember to slow down and listen to people. When I ask someone “how are you?”, I hope to actually stop and hear them out! We can get in such a habit of being in a hurry and not make time for folks.
I would love to encourage you to pick a word for you to focus on this year. Reflect on the past year and think about what direction you want to head this new year. Pray about it and ask the Lord to give you just the right word. Write it down! Write it on everything! Writing it down will help you remember and stay focused on the direction you want to head. Blessings, dear one…
