The Treasure
2 Corinthians 4:1-7: “Therefore, since through God’s mercy we have this ministry, we do not lose heart. Rather, we have renounced secret and shameful ways; we do not use deception, nor do we distort the word of God. On the contrary, by setting forth the truth plainly, we commend ourselves to everyone’s conscience in the sight of God. And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing. The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel that displays the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. For what we preach is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, and ourselves as your servants for Jesus’ sake. For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of God’s glory displayed in the face of Christ. But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us.”
What IS “this treasure”?
This Treasure, THE Truth, is the Good News of Jesus Christ.
God has chosen to put that Treasure in these jars of clay we call flesh as He pours His truth into us. This Treasure is not only for us to enjoy and have, but God has given us this Treasure, the Good News of Jesus Christ, to be shared with a world around us who is starving for Good News. A world is searching for a treasure that will bring lasting satisfaction. The Treasure of Jesus Christ is unlimited, unending, and exponentially grows as it is shared with others. Investing in this Treasure by sharing it with others reveals the value and eternal return that is available to all.
Matthew 28:18-20, says “Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
When we find a great restaurant or see a great movie, we are quick to tell others. Have you found a great Savior? Have you found a hope and joy in a relationship with JESUS Christ? Have you found how to fill the void in your heart? Have you told anyone lately about Jesus?
The church is part of God’s plan in spreading the message of redemption through Jesus Christ, to the world around us. Sure He can accomplish this plan without us, but the reality is He gives us this amazing opportunity to be in His plan. Every believer in Christ is essential to the fulfillment of the spreading the GOOD NEWS of Jesus Christ.
You are a Treasure chest. You and I hold The Treasure that is worth more than any thing this world has to offer. The Treasure is the Good News of Jesus Christ. The Treasure is for you, but not meant for you to keep to yourself. Let’s go spread some GOOD NEWS around!
