DOTS

Why DOTS? What in the world does that stand for?  “Depend On The Savior”, of course!

How do we depend on Him?

I know that there are the “church” answers of how we should do that, but do we REALLY depend on Him?  What does that even look like?

I did the Bible study, Armor of God, by Pricilla Shirer quite awhile back and in the middle of that, went to see the movie, War Room.  WOW!! Those of you who have done either one of those things, know what I mean!  If you haven’t done them, you need to.

Well, I keep going back to this prayer thing.  Prayer not only allows us to commune with God, and to petition for things, it causes us to depend on Him, THROUGH those petitions….when we ask Him for things, for help, for whatever it may be, we have to believe that He’s going to do something.  AND whatever He’s going to do, we have to believe that it’s for our best!

Philippians 4:6 says, “do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.”
And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us.  And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him.
— 1 John 5:14-15

In the movie, War Room, there was an older woman whose husband was a stategist in the Korean War.  At some point in time, she realized that she needed to come up with her own strategy to change things that were happening in her life.  She teaches a younger woman about the power of prayer and tells her that she calls her prayer closet, her “war room”.  That’s where she goes to battle against the enemy in prayer.

The younger woman, eventually, turns her closet into a “war room”, which impacts not only her life, but also the her family members.  At the end of the movie, the older woman told her that now it was her turn to teach another.

We left that movie and I asked my husband, “well, what are we gonna do about that?”  Meaning, what’s our next move?  Because you can’t leave that movie at the theater!  Even at the end of the movie, the older woman was praying in her closet, asking the Lord to raise up warriors all over the world!  It was powerful!  It made me so much more aware of how little I pray and how little I utilize this powerful weapon that we have….

So, how does all of that go with depending on the Savior?

The definition of depend is:

1. to rely; place trust (usually followed by on or upon):

2. to rely for support, maintenance, help, etc. (usually followed by on or upon):

There ya go!

Depending on the Savior is placing our trust in, relying on or upon Him…

When we take this prayer thing to the next level and actually utilize the strategy of prayer in our war room, we then must relinquish our control and desire to fix the situation, and let Him do it!! We can pray about all sorts of things, you name it….but not until we let God handle it, will we be depending on Him.
