Family Matters

Greetings! 

My name is Mike Bryant, and I am the new Family Pastor at First Baptist Dalhart, I wanted to introduce myself in the event we have not had the privilege of meeting one another yet.

Family ministry is something that I am very passionate about, and I am looking forward to working with your family and helping in whatever way I can.  As serious and vital as Family Ministry is to those in your family, I don’t want us to get the impression that we must be serious every moment of every day. It is important to have fun with your family. Don’t underestimate the power of fun. We can get so caught up in the schedules, homework, chores, and stresses of life that we forget to relax and have fun together!

If you never have fun in the home but always seek to go somewhere for fun, as kids grow up and get their driver’s license, they will always seek fun somewhere else. Building a culture of fun in the home is important. This culture of fun can also foster an environment of openness and trust. Future blogs will explore how that environment of openness and trust can be cultivated.

 For now, let me leave you with a couple of quick fun activities for you and your family to enjoy together.

 1st Activity

Directions, before you disclose the following statements make sure everyone agrees to participate. This includes you, and you cannot practice them beforehand. Part of the fun is you: Parent, Grandparent, Aunt, Uncle, etc… being willing to make a fool of yourself. Then go through the following list:

1. Have your family members try to say "Toy Boat" five times as fast as they can.

2. Have your family members say "wristwatch" five times as fast as they can.

3. Have your family members say "IRISH wristwatch" five times as fast as they can.

2nd Activity

This will take a little bit of prep. You will need a nylon stocking and a tennis ball for each person. You will need 5 unopened water bottles and one video camera.

 Place tennis ball in stocking, then place stocking over face (This is a great silly photo opportunity). Set up the 5 water bottles on a hard floor surface and one at a time you will see who can knock over the water bottles the quickest while videoing the chaos of course.

 This a fun silly activity that should get everyone laughing!
